A hop over to the Isle of Wight might be considered... two working Benedictine Abbeys... the remarkable all brick Quarr Abbey and the hidden St Cecilia's Abbey where cloistered Benedictine nuns sing in Latin with the angels... something very special going on there...

Already done that in my pre-Substack days. You're right, special.

This is so helpful! Thank you for helping guys like me out. I didn't grow up talking about or visiting any of these places, so this map is just what I need. The best I had before is maps like "Medieval England" or "England as William the Conqueror Found It." These tend to be loaded with details of events that took place over a thousand years or more. Too much forest to see any particular trees.

Excellent map of ol' Blighty. Great font choice.

Thanks, I love this script as it is the one used in St Cuthbert's Gospel.

Is that your own handwriting?? Where is Mordor on this map??

This is a GREAT idea. That would be really fun, to diy a map of my own travels/landmarks/things of note. Got me thinking! My handwriting won't be half as good!

Haha! It is my own writing (but not my handwriting as it is illegible); an uncial script but a bit wonky in places as I was having disagreements with the pen nib which was holding too much ink. My next version will be better.

Mordor is unmarked but in general is the south-easr of England, London in particular. 😉
