A glimpse into the 7th century
On a hot day last summer I stood in the sun, surveying the ruins of the Abbey first built by St Augustine around the year 600AD. There’s not a lot of it left; it was largely destroyed after the English Reformation in the 16th century, but there are some fabulous remnants to see.
