This is a post for paid subscribers, rather later than I intended, sorry! We are going to take a look at the church of St Agatha, Easby, North Yorkshire and in particular its remarkable medieval paintings.

The church lies next to the Abbey of Easby, which was begun in the 12th century by Premonstratensian Canons; it functions as the parish church for the local area. Parts of it are 12th century, much of it 13th century, with other parts such as windows later. What’s unique about it is the amount of medieval painting which survives.
