This week I have some more misericords to show you, but I thought a look at St Mary’s Beverley, which contains them, would also be in order as it is a beautiful church. But first have a look a this lovely (probably 14th century) example from Middleton St Andrew, with the figure depicting as holding up the misericord seat. I love the way they carved beards back then.

The town of Beverley in east Yorkshire has two outstanding churches, not far apart. This one is the lesser one, but it’s beautiful.
